There are several components in professional design and development that go into consideration before we can give you a quote. Not all design companies and professionals are created equal, nor do they offer the same skills or services that others may. It is important to understand what it is that you are looking for and your budget before seeking out a professional.

Just like with mechanics, many people feel like they are taken advantage of by technology, web design companies, SEO companies, and developers because they do not understand all the components and resources that are pooled together to create something close to what you need and envision.

 Consider the Following: 

• What type of website do I need? (Informational, virtual storefront or e-commerce site, blog, etc. the type of website you need will determine how it is developed and the technical specifications of hosting and integrations which can cost more than informatiknal sites.) 
• What is the hourly rate my web developer will charge? There is a sliding scale for web design and development. Some developers will charge an hourly rate through the entire process. Some charge a deposit and then a flat fee. Others may charge a flat rate first and then monthly maintenance, depending on your needs. Hourly rates can become expensive if you require a lot of customization. 
• Do I already have a domain / hosting? A domain is your address on the web - the www.itsme.com address that identifies you. You can shop for a domain name and hosting package at affordable prices or your web developer / design firm may do it for you, but for a commission which will raise the overall cost. Domains are registered at a 1 year minimum and hosting plans may be purchased at a monthly or annual rate. 
• Do I have a site plan in mind or will I ask my developer to come up with one? A site map is basically an outline of how your website will look and link up to other pages that connect to your homepage. If you already have a site plan, you can save on the development of one which typically takes about 5 hours. 
• Do I require messaging, contact buttons, chat, or email? On the developer's end, integrating these options does not take a long time but can if you do not have an adequate hosting plan or CMS (content management system). If you are looking to launch a communication platform, you will be entering the arena of development over design and this can significantly raise your cost. Email is not often included by default with hosting, but can be. Email options are usually inexpensive and can be integrated. 
• Do I want to make my own changes to the site or do I already have a web admin? An admin will make minor tweaks and add content to your website, ensure everything stays up to date, secure, and easily viewed online. If you require a portal for yourself or admin to access your website, this may come with an additional fee as most developers will access the website through your hosting portal which increases overall security. We do not recommend contracting web developers for small updates as thereis usually a high minimum hourly rate each time you do so.
• How many pages do I need? Pages needed is a common qualifier for cost. The more pages added to your websites, the more overall work needs to be done, the more you will pay in turn. Also note that every piece of content or web page requires SEO to ensure that it appears on search results relevant to what your themes are. This can cost more if done after an audit.
• Do I need copywriting? How many pages? 
• Do I need a local search or basic internal search? 
• Do I want custom graphics or animations? 
• Do I need my site available in multiple languages? 
• Am I migrating an old website or content to a new host to be edited or tweaked? 
• Does my plan include on page SEO or front end back end SEO?
• What kind of security features does my site need? Do I need disclaimers? 
• Is My site optimized for mobile devices? 
• Do I want any interactive features? 
• Do I need custom coding or integrations? 
• Does my purpose require certain accessibility features by law? This is only to be considered by Public entities, non profits, government funded organizations, and municipality sites.
